Sciatica (aka Sit-ass-ica)

I'm no medical doctor, but I do some self-diagnosis from time to time. Most recently, I discovered I have a symptom known as sciatica. I call it "sit-ass-ica" because it is a result of sitting in this computer chair all day long every day. The sciatic nerve (in this case, running down my left leg, is effected. There is a numb/tingling pain, most likely caused by an injury to the spine around the lower lumbar vertebrae. My self-treatment is to spend far less time at the computer and far more time each day stretching and exercising. While I was already running or doing a step workout three times a week and doing pullups every day, I've now started running at least five days a week, doing back-focused stretches, and started using my dust-covered bench to do bench presses.

I'd love to say that this sciatica will clear up with some proactivity and rest. If not, my enjoyment of long drives in my car may be in for a major change.

Word to the wise: use lumbar support, don't slouch, don't hunch, and don't get glued to the monitor/keyboard like I did.
