Squirrel

The squirrel in the photos below was tucked up into the corner behind my hot tub chemicals hiding from a nearby grey and white cat. Photographing a cornered rodent takes a good deal of skill. First you have to shoo away the hungry cat with a stick, then get the camera set up, and finally hope the squirrel doesn't vamoose before you pop off two quick shots. Shortly after these photos were taken, the squirrel zipped out past me with a squeek and pulled up for a rest in my neighbor's front yard where I took two black and white film shots with my telephoto lens. These two photos here are digital. One more thing: squirrels alternate between a chirp and a purring sound when they are cornered and frightened. Too bad I didn't record the sound. It's like a cross between a cockatiel and a cat.
