My second summer back in the saddle here in Sierra Vista and this one is particularly hot. The almanac says it should be 93 degrees but it has been well over 100 for the past week. The monsoon winds and rains are here, bringing with them the opportunity for wonderful sunrise and sunset photos.
The wind is bringing down black walnuts by the hundreds...literally. I picked over 680 walnuts off the ground in the 24 hours. The day before it was close to 300 and about 100 a day the three days before that. Who knew one tree in a little front yard of a little house would have that many nuts.
The local rabbits are attempting to increase the population, as rabbits due. There are four of them right now and they enjoy cool evening shade and the green grass of our front lawns, lawns being a rarity in the southwest corner of North America.
The development of the remaining three empty lots in our neighborhood continues with two lots cleared and the other spray painted for utilities. Soon our section of the town will be complete though the rabbits and quail and lizards and various other creatures will suddenly be without natural habitat.
Work continues with the pallet wood in my garage, the plants in the back yard, and today I took a defensive stance on pest control by spraying the exterior base of my house with bug spray.
The framing of photographs continues but I will eventually run out of wall space. I may have to start giving framed photos away.
